In May and June 2018, Australia Post is releasing several products that recognise important events and anniversaries.

World Stamp Championship ISRAEL 2018

The World Stamp Championship ISRAEL 2018 will be held between 27 and 31 May 2018 at the International Convention Centre, Jerusalem. Max Stern and Co. will be representing Australia Post at the show. Australia Post will release a special daily minisheet, postmarked for each day of the show. A mint version of the minisheet will also be released for sale on 27 May 2018.

The minisheet design focuses on the Eucalyptus, which was voted Israel’s favourite tree in an official survey conducted a few years ago, albeit it’s an imported species from Australia! The minisheet contains four $1 Flowering Gum stamps from the 2016 Love the Celebrate stamp issue. For added interest, the minisheet includes a ‘scratch and sniff’ effect, which brings the unique fragrance of the Eucalyptus to life.

The World Stamp Championship ISRAEL 2018 minisheet is available from 27 May 2018, online, at participating Post Offices and via mail order on 1800 331 794, while stocks last.

The minisheet will also be sold at the Australia Post stand on the last day of the Newcastle Stamp and Coin Expo, 27 May 2018, at the Newcastle Showground Exhibition Centre.

1928 Trans-Pacific Flight by Kingsford-Smith and Ulm

Ninety years ago, two Australians, Charles Kingsford Smith (“Smithy”) and Charles Ulm, made the first historic flight across the Pacific on a second-hand Fokker plane, the Southern Cross, FVIIb-3m NC1985. The plane and its crew took off from Oakland, California for Hawaii on 31 May 1928, a leg that took 27 hours and 25 minutes. The daring flight attracted worldwide interest, and the crew were greeted as heroes on their arrival in Brisbane on 9 June 1928.

To recognise this incredible achievement in aviation, Australia Post is releasing a postage-paid envelope (PPE) on 31 May 2018, featuring wonderful illustrations by Arthur Leydin.

The 90th Anniversary of the 1928 Trans-Pacific Flight PPE is available from 31 May 2018, online, at participating Post Offices and via mail order on 1800 331 794, while stocks last.

65th Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

On 2 June 2018, it will be 65 years since the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The coronation took place on 2 June 1953, at Westminster Abbey, and was presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury. More than 8,000 guests attended, with 129 nations and territories officially represented. For the first time in history, the coronation was televised around the world.

To honour this significant anniversary, Australia Post is releasing a postal numismatic cover (PNC). The cover, limited to 7,500, contains a $1 uncirculated coin from the Perth Mint, produced especially for the anniversary.

The 65th Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II PNC is available from 2 June 2018, online, at participating Post Offices and via mail order on 1800 331 794, while stocks last.
