Battle of Amiens 1918 postal numismatic cover

Under the command of Lieutenant General John Monash, the Australian Corps played a significant role in the Battle of Amiens, near Villers-Bretonneux, which occurred on 8 August 1918. British, Canadian and Australian infantry overran German positions and achieved a decisive breakthrough, capturing more than 12 kilometres in the first day. They also took 29,144 German prisoners and around 350 guns including, significantly, the “Amiens gun”.

To commemorate the centenary of this important battle of WWI, we are releasing a postal numismatic cover on 8 August 2018. Featuring the $1 Cobbers Statue stamp from the War Memorials stamp issue (2018) and a special 50-cent coin, the cover design showcases part of the striking 1930 painting by H Septimus Power, 8th August 1918, which is housed in the collection of the Australian War Memorial.

The Magic Pudding and Snugglepot and Cuddlepie licensed stamp packs

To coincide with the release of the Children’s Bush Classics stamp issue on 21 August, we are releasing two very special licensed stamp packs. The packs focus on the centenary of The Magic Pudding by Norman Lindsay, and Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie by May Gibbs, both of which were first published in 1918. The designs incorporate original illustrations and cover art.

Each pack features 16 Children’s Bush Classics stamps, together with lively character illustrations in the stamp tabs. The Magic Pudding stamp tabs are a selection of illustrations made by Norman Lindsay in 1959, as part of the development of a Magic Pudding puppet show.

Hot Wheels licensed products
