Welcome to a new edition of the Stamp Bulletin, presenting upcoming Australian and territories stamp issues, as well as themed collectables.
In March, we celebrate the “golden age” of travel posters, which occurred in the 1930s (and a little either side of). These vibrant Art Deco posters played a significant role in promoting Australia as a tourist destination, despite the hardships of the era. These posters are also highly prized collector items.
Three striking stamp designs for the Australian Antarctic Territory present three of Sidney Nolan’s Antarctica series of paintings. Nolan visited the icy continent in January of 1964 and spent eight days recording his impressions on postcard-size watercolours. The resulting series of 68 paintings were completed on Nolan’s return, over a period of six months.
We also mark a century of Legacy in Australia. This important charitable organisation and its volunteers work tirelessly to assist families of servicemen and servicewomen.
Also released in March is a large minisheet presenting the 10 designs of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands Reef Fish stamp issue. A trimmed-down version of the minisheet is presented on a first day cover.
In April, a stamp issue of three designs presents different types of solar eclipse, the issue being timed with a rare hybrid solar eclipse, which is due to occur on 20 April 2023, viewable from the Exmouth peninsula, in Western Australia. Collectables include a medallion cover.
There are also new licensed stamp packs, available for your collecting enjoyment and covering a range of themes.
