Hello Collectors
Welcome to another edition of the Stamp Bulletin, where we showcase new Australian stamp issues and collectables. We're proud to present a stamp issue that recognises workers on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic (as mentioned in our previous edition). The efforts of these “frontline heroes” cannot be underestimated.
In late February, the Ramsar Wetlands commemorative international stamp designs highlight the beauty and diversity of Australian wetlands, which play an important role in environmental and human health.
There are two single stamp releases in March. Edith Cowan OBE, a long-standing social justice advocate, achieved a remarkable feat by being the first woman elected to any parliament in Australia. We also commemorate the arrival of HMVS Cerberus in Port Phillip Bay, 150 years ago. The ship was commissioned as a coastal defence to safeguard the City of Melbourne.
Also in March, we celebrate the Australian Legends of Cricket – six of our finest living players, past and present. The stamps are presented in three se-tenant pairs and feature the players in action, using the on-field skills that have made them household names. We look back at some much-loved Holden car models, including “Australia’s Own Car”: the 1948 Holden 48-215 or “FX”, in the wake of the retirement of this iconic brand.
In April, we commemorate 100 years of Rotary in Australia, Rotary being one of the largest service organisations in the world. We also present Lest We Forget, in the lead-up to Anzac Day. The issue highlights the Anzac Day traditions of wreath-laying and poetry reading and includes two postal numismatic covers.
