The Australia Post 2015 Collectors’ Competition has given us thought provoking insights into the interests of our philatelic collectors. The valuable feedback we received has been collated and will be used to shape the future direction of Australia Post’s stamp programmes.
Over 2,400 collectors took part in this year’s survey, which adopted a different approach to previous stamp polls. We asked more in-depth questions regarding collectors’ interests and preferences, and asked for feedback on how philatelic enthusiasts are developing their collections.
The competition draw took place on Monday 23 November. Two lucky winners from each state won either an iPad Mini™ or a copy of the 2015 Collection of Australian Stamps.
Commenting on the success of this year’s collector’s survey, Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt said: “Our thanks go to everyone who took the time to participate and complete this year’s Collectors’ Competition survey”.
“Your invaluable feedback will be put to great use and will go towards ensuring we continue to develop a stamp programme that is both interesting and relevant to our collector community”.
“Our congratulations go to our prize draw winners from each state, who all received an iPad Mini™ or a 2015 Collection of Australian Stamps for their contribution.”
The survey results
We received responses from collectors on a huge range of topics. We found that of most interest to collectors is information regarding Australia Post’s forthcoming stamp releases and philatelic news. Most of our respondents eagerly anticipate news of our issues and they identified this as being of most relevance to them.
However, Australian collectors still have great interest in past stamp issues. Survey results indicated that people are still keen to look back at archive collections and older stamp issues focused on popular collector themes.
But it’s not just information about Australia Post that collectors want to hear about. The sharing nature of the philatelic community was demonstrated by the many respondents who indicated that they would like to read about fellow philatelists’ collections, as well as their expert advice and opinions.
We would love to profile you and your collections on this website, so please send us your details and information about your collection or area of interests via this link.
Heading the list of preferred subjects were issues depicting historical events. This was closely followed by subjects showing a love of heritage, nature and animals; all clearly very popular with collectors across Australia. Events and sport also featured high on collectors’ lists.
