One-eyed Kangaroos supporters, footy fans and footy-loving philatelists across the country have an exciting opportunity to celebrate an incredible moment in AFL history.
Australia Post will be releasing a special medallion cover commemorating North Melbourne’s Brent Harvey, in honour of his 427th game. In playing that game Harvey will break Michael Tuck’s longstanding VFL/AFL record for number of games played. All going to plan, the record is set to be broken in front of a home crowd at Etihad Stadium, during Round 19 against St Kilda, on Saturday 30 July. If for any reason Harvey doesn’t play during Round 19, the medallion cover release will simply be delayed until he does!
The centrepiece of the medallion cover is a replica ‘Boomer 427’ coin, the original of which will be used in Harvey’s 427th game at the captains’ toss. Each medallion cover contains a $1 Map of Australia stamp and tab, with the tab featuring an action image of Brent ‘Boomer’ Harvey. The ‘Boomer 427’ medallion cover is officially licensed by the Australian Football League and endorsed by the AFL Players’ Association.
Brent Harvey’s AFL career began as an 18 year old with the Kangaroos in 1996 – the year the Kangaroos won their third VFL/AFL Premiership. Harvey was a part of North Melbourne’s 1999 Premiership team, and has won a record five Syd Barker Medals, the Club’s best and fairest award.
With All-Australian honours on four occasions and more than 500 goals to his name, Harvey has also been recognised as a member of North Melbourne’s Team of the Century. Harvey was the fourth player to reach the 400 game milestone, joining the now-retired Dustin Fletcher, Kevin Bartlett and Michael Tuck.
