Hello Collectors
Welcome to the March–April edition of Stamp Bulletin. Notable among the latest Australian stamp issues and collectable products is a special sheetlet of five stamps, the sale of which supports disaster relief operations, including the recent bushfires.
A new design concept for the 2020 footy stamp packs incorporates the individual AFL and NRL club logos on the stamps. We’ve also produced two stamp pack collections (one for each code), each of which includes a logo stamp for the code’s individual teams.
This edition of the Bulletin lists all products to be released for the Australia Post Australian Legends Award 2020. This award recipients will be named in the next edition, and background detail given. You can also keep up-to-date with this year’s Legends via the Australia Post Collectables website.
A single gummed stamp marks the 150th anniversary of the first Sydney–San Francisco mail steamer service. The SS Wonga Wonga departed Sydney on 26 March 1870, transporting mail, passengers and cargo across the Pacific. The Australian Antarctic Territory issue also has a maritime theme, featuring HMAS Wyatt Earp, which voyaged to Antarctica in 1948.
The Anzac Day issue features four paintings by well-known Australian artists: two paintings representing Australian overseas service and the home front during World War I and two during World War II. The annual Queen’s Birthday issue celebrates the 94th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II with two stamps, one featuring an image from her tour of Australia in 1970, and the other a photograph taken at Royal Ascot in 2019.
Our final stamp issue for April presents some of Australia’s beautiful birds, six species recognised as official emblems of Australian states and territories.
