Hello Collectors

Welcome to the November edition of the Stamp Bulletin for 2024, in which we present new stamp releases and collectables to be released over the coming months.

The first of the stamp issues for this edition celebrates Christmas with religious and secular stamps. The feature is split between a modern Australian interpretation of Christmas and traditional illustrations. This year’s two religious stamps feature artworks from one of the treasures of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. The work known as the Aspremont–Kievraing Hours is a hand-written book, or manuscript, made in north-eastern France around 1300, more than 700 years ago. The manuscript is a religious prayer book, and the numerous illustrations or miniatures are painted with precious pigments and adorned with gold leaf. Several tell the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Those who prefer non-religious stamps can celebrate a traditional Aussie Christmas with a choice of three stamps. This year, Santa has enlisted some familiar native Australian animals to assist with celebrating Christmas. A carolling Kookaburra announces the glad tidings, a big Red Kangaroo hauls a weighty Christmas sack, and an impatient Koala has already unwrapped his gift.

Our Christmas Island Christmas stamp issue has a light-hearted take on the classic Australian summer Christmas, namely that of the sand, the sun and some joyous fun.

This bulletin also features a sneak peek of our Collection of Australian Stamps and Australian Territories Collection of Stamps, available in December for pre-order.

In November, His Majesty Charles III celebrates his 76th birthday on 14 November 2024. Charles was born in 1948 at Buckingham Palace during the reign of his maternal grandfather, King George VI. He acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022 and was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023.

This is the second Australian issue honouring the birthday of King Charles III. It features a photographic portrait of Charles taken in December 2023 during the recording of His Majesty’s Christmas message at Buckingham Palace. The Royal Christmas message is a much-loved tradition, first broadcast on radio in 1932 by George V.  In 2023, Charles’ Christmas message to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth communicated his personal sentiments, including his hopes for world peace and our shared obligations to protect the Earth and the natural world.

Finally, you can find licensed Christmas MyStamp packs for young collectors or the young at heart, including a feature from the ever-popular Bluey – a highlight of 2024. Also featured are licensed stamp packs and special releases, including information on the Brisbane Stamp and Coin Show 2024 hosted on the 9-10 November.
