The christening of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was an intimate affair, with less than 30 guests. It was held in the small Chapel Royal in St James’ Palace on 23 October 2013 and was attended by his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and his grandfather, the Prince of Wales.
Other guests included his mother’s father and his great-grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince George was born on July 22 2013 in London's St. Mary's Hospital and is now third in line to the British throne, following his grandfather and father. George was wrapped in a replica of the christening robe used by the royal family since 1841.
He was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury and his seven godparents included his father’s cousin, Zara, friends of his parents and a close friend of his grandmother, the Princess of Wales.
There have already been six British monarchs called George – the last being the Queen's father, George VI. Louis is also another favourite royal name having been the name of Lord Mountbatten, the uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh.
